PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 16, 2012) – Rutgers softball freshman Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, following a 3-2 week in conference action for the Scarlet Knights.

The rookie had an outstanding week offensively for RU, leading the team with a .444 batting average and a .667 slugging percentage. She recorded eight hits, – including a hit in four of five games last week – scored three runs and batted in six runs.

Howard was a triple shy of the cycle in the win against Notre Dame, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run to give Rutgers its first lead of the contest and came back in the bottom of the ninth inning to register the game-winning double.

In Saturday’s doubleheader against Villanova, the Wilmington, Del., native combined for two hits and three RBI. She returned on Sunday with a 3-for-4 performance with one run scored.

Howard and the Scarlet Knights take a break from conference action on Tuesday, April 17, when they travel to Stony Brook for a midweek doubleheader set for 2 p.m. at University Field.
