  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers junior Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) has been named to the Soccerbuzz Elite Team of the Week and the Soccer America Team of the Week for Aug. 29 – Sept. 1, the groups have announced.

Lloyd, a midfielder, had four goals and one assist (nine points) in a pair of shutout victories for the Scarlet Knights last weekend. On Aug. 29 in the season-opening 5-0 win against Providence, she tallied two goals and an assist, including the game-winning score for the Knights. Against Stony Brook Aug. 31, Lloyd had two goals, including the game winner, in RU’s 3-0 victory.

This marks the fourth time during her career that Lloyd has been named to the Soccerbuzz and Soccer America Teams of the Week, also garnering the honors as a sophomore (Oct. 7, 2002) and as a freshman (Oct. 8 and Nov. 5, 2001).

A preseason All-America selection by Soccerbuzz, she is a two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection after leading RU with 31 points (12 G, 7 A) last season. One of 15 finalists for the 2002 Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top female collegiate soccer player in the nation, Lloyd was also named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Soccerbuzz and Collegesoccer.com following her freshman season. In addition, she was the only unanimous choice to this year’s Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, and in 2002 she was named the Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year as well as a preseason all-conference selection.

Rutgers (2-0), under the direction of fourth-year head coach Glenn Crooks, will compete at the Notre Dame Classic this weekend. The Scarlet Knights will play Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 5, at 6:00 p.m. ET, and Arizona State on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 12:00 p.m. ET.
