  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers rising junior Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) has been named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Conference Women’s Soccer Team, and the Scarlet Knights have been picked to finish fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Division in a poll of conference coaches.

Lloyd, a midfielder, earned her second consecutive preseason all-conference nod from the league coaches, and was the 2002 Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year. A two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection, Lloyd led RU with 31 points (12 G, 7 A) last season, earning All-America honors from Soccerbuzz. One of 15 finalists for the 2002 Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top female collegiate soccer player in the nation, Lloyd was also named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Soccerbuzz and Collegesoccer.com following her freshman season.

As a team, the Scarlet Knights received 58 points in the preseason poll to finish fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Division, just three points behind third-place Villanova (61). Notre Dame (88 points, 10 first-place votes) is the preseason favorite in the Mid-Atlantic, followed closely by West Virginia (82 points, four first-place votes). Rutgers posted a 3-2-1 BIG EAST record to finish third in the Mid-Atlantic last season, advancing to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.

Rutgers, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Glenn Crooks, will begin the 2003 season on Friday, Aug. 29, with a home non-conference match against Providence at 7:00 p.m.
