  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers women’s soccer head coach Glenn Crooks led the New Jersey 1985 Girls Team to the final of the National Olympic Development Program (ODP) Championships March 16 in Plano, Texas.

Crooks led the New Jersey team last summer to the 2002 Region 1 championship, qualifying the team for this month’s national championship. New Jersey defeated California-South 2-1 in the semifinals March 14, then lost to Illinois in the final, 1-0.

“The competition level was tremendous,” Crooks, who will begin his fourth season at Rutgers in August, said. “This is a group that competed at the ODP Nationals two years ago with (Rutgers assistant) Mandi Risden and (Rutgers volunteer assistant) Jonathan Morgan and lost in the semifinals to California-Southern, so it was nice to get some vindication by defeating California-Southern in the semifinals this year. This team is one of the most special groups New Jersey has ever had. The tournament had a great atmosphere and was a great experience for everyone involved, including myself.”

Rutgers finished the 2002 season with a 10-8-2 overall record and 4-1-1 mark in the BIG EAST’s Mid-Atlantic Division, advancing to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
