Lloyd was named to the group’s All-America Second Team, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region All-First Team, while Brandao earned a spot on the group’s Mid-Atlantic Region All-Freshman Team.
Lloyd, the 2002 Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection, led the Scarlet Knights with 31 points (12 goals, seven assists) this season. A selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region All-Second Team, she was one of 15 finalists for the Hermann Trophy and one of 12 finalists for Soccerbuzz’s National Player-of-the-Year Award. Following her freshman campaign, the midfielder was named an All-American by the NSCAA, Soccerbuzz and Collegesoccer.com. Lloyd also was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and the Soccerbuzz Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year after collecting 37 points (15 goals, seven assists) in 2001.
Lloyd just returned from training with the United States Under-21 National Team Jan. 18-26 in Chula Vista, CA. To cap off the training camp, Lloyd scored a goal in the team’s 4-0 victory in a scrimmage against the U.S. Under-19 National Team.
Brandao, a back, was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team after starting every match this fall, helping to lead the RU defense to a 1.32 goals-against average.
Rutgers finished the 2002 season with a 10-8-2 overall record and a 3-2-1 mark in the BIG EAST’s Mid-Atlantic Division, advancing to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
