  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers women’s soccer sophomore Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) and freshman Kim Brandao (Rahway, NJ) have been singled out by Soccerbuzz for recognition following the 2002 season.

Lloyd was named to the group’s All-America Second Team, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region All-First Team, while Brandao earned a spot on the group’s Mid-Atlantic Region All-Freshman Team.

Lloyd, the 2002 Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection, led the Scarlet Knights with 31 points (12 goals, seven assists) this season. A selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region All-Second Team, she was one of 15 finalists for the Hermann Trophy and one of 12 finalists for Soccerbuzz’s National Player-of-the-Year Award. Following her freshman campaign, the midfielder was named an All-American by the NSCAA, Soccerbuzz and Collegesoccer.com. Lloyd also was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and the Soccerbuzz Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year after collecting 37 points (15 goals, seven assists) in 2001.

Lloyd just returned from training with the United States Under-21 National Team Jan. 18-26 in Chula Vista, CA. To cap off the training camp, Lloyd scored a goal in the team’s 4-0 victory in a scrimmage against the U.S. Under-19 National Team.

Brandao, a back, was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team after starting every match this fall, helping to lead the RU defense to a 1.32 goals-against average.

Rutgers finished the 2002 season with a 10-8-2 overall record and a 3-2-1 mark in the BIG EAST’s Mid-Atlantic Division, advancing to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
