LOS ANGELES, CA – The Rutgers women’s soccer team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season, a 1-0 decision at Loyola Marymount (2-1) Sept. 3.
The Lions’ goal in the 13th minute ended up being enough to secure the victory for Loyola Marymount. The Scarlet Knights turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, as RU recorded four of its five total shots after halftime. The best chance for Rutgers came in the 86th minute, when a perfect cross came into the box for Domenique Esposito (Rivervale, NJ), but her header caught just enough of the crossbar to avoid going into the empty net, and the Lions were able to clear the dangerous ball.
Sophomore Robyn Jones (Titusville, NJ) made three saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights (2-1).
Rutgers will finish its road trip Sunday, Sept. 5, with a match at USC at 1:00 p.m. PT.
