PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers junior back Kim Brandao (Rahway, NJ) has been named the BIG EAST Conference’s Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Aug. 30.
Brandao helped organize a Rutgers defense that posted a pair of shutout victories during the opening weekend of play. Against Drexel Aug. 27, Brandao and the Rutgers defense held the Dragons to two shots, neither of which were on goal, in a 2-0 Scarlet Knight victory. On Aug. 29, the RU defense allowed just one shot in a 3-0 win against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Brandao, a second-team all-BIG EAST and third-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) all-region selection last year, has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on two other occasions during her career (Sept. 22 and Oct. 20, 2003).
