PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers women’s soccer team will play its third match of the spring Friday, April 23, at Villanova at 3:00 p.m. In its two previous spring matches, RU defeated Seton Hall 2-0 April 2, and tied Penn State 1-1 April 10.
Junior All-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) and sophomore Kelly Evans (Saddle Brook, NJ) scored the Knights’ goals against Seton Hall, while redshirt junior Lissette Brandao (Rahway, NJ) had the lone score against Penn State. The result against the Nittany Lions was especially encouraging, considering that Penn State advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2003 College Cup after defeating Rutgers in the second round, 3-1.
In addition to the team’s training, Lloyd has been busy training with the U.S. Under-21 National Team. She will return to Carson, CA, for another training session April 16-25.
The Rutgers women’s soccer team (10-7-5, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) advanced to the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament and the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
