Scarletknights.com: Why did you choose Rutgers?
Brianna Scarola: Ever since I was younger I wanted to play Division I soccer – that was my dream. Rutgers was close to home and has a great soccer program. I want to study exercise physiology and they have a great program for that too. The coaches were great – I’ve been training with them a while and love them all.
SK.com: What have your impressions been of your first preseason camp?
BS: It went really well. I was really happy coming into preseason. The coaches were great and everyone was friendly. Playing just came naturally.
SK.com: When did you first start playing soccer?
BS: I think I was about four years old when I started playing, but I actually didn’t start playing goalkeeper until I was a little bit older. I was always a forward, and then I made my first club team when I was 10 as a goalkeeper so I kind of stuck with it and I loved it.
SK.com: What is your favorite part about playing soccer?
BS: I love watching great, clean, crisp soccer. Playing for a program like this you get a lot of that and it’s awesome standing in goal and having a great team in front of you.
SK.com: From a fan perspective, do you have a favorite player, club and national team that you root for?
BS: On the men’s side I root for Manchester City and on the women’s side I’m going to have to go with the home team Sky Blue. My favorite player would have to be Ashlyn Harris. She’s pretty cool. I also root for the United States national teams. I watch the women’s more than men’s, and I’m hoping to go to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next year.
SK.com: Are you looking forward to your first year in school?
BS: My schedule came in and there are some tough classes but I’m actually pretty excited to start working towards the exercise physiology program. I love learning that stuff so I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
