PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 8, 2014) – Rutgers women’s soccer senior forward Stef Scholz (South Hackensack, N.J.) was named to the 2014 Big Ten Preseason All-Conference Second Team by College Sports Madness, it was announced Friday. Scholz enjoyed a stellar junior season in which she scored 10 goals and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team.
The honor is Scholz’s second this summer, as she was also named to the W-League Team of the Week on June 5 after recording a hat trick in a 3-1 victory for the North Jersey Valkyries.
Scholz started 13 games and played in all 22 for the Scarlet Knights last season, notching three game-winners. Her breakout year began in a 5-1 victory against Princeton on Sept. 15, when Scholz scored four of RU’s five goals. The total was the second-best single-game mark in program history behind Elyse Eichman-Dolan, who scored five times against Rhode Island on Sept. 23, 1984.
Her performance earned her American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 17, as she went on to earn a spot on the weekly honor roll the following week after scoring the game-winning goal over Villanova (Sept. 20) with 31 seconds left in regulation.
In 55 career matches played, Scholz has 32 points (15g, 2a), 88 shots and four game-winning goals.
Rutgers hosts a pair of scrimmages on Aug. 12 against West Virginia and Aug. 16 against Villanova before opening the regular season on Aug. 22 against Stony Brook at Yurcak Field.
