PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 5, 2014) – Former Rutgers women’s soccer star Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) was named the American Athletic Conference’s Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner for women’s soccer for the 2013 season.
Winners were chosen by the conference’s academic affairs committee and are given to student-athletes in each American Athletic Conference sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades and performances and volunteer service given to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible.
Filigno was named NSCAA All-Region last season for the second time in her RU career and made the American Athletic Conference First Team. She ended the year with eight goals and three assists, leading the squad with five game-winners.
The Canadian National Team and current Sky Blue FC player finished her impressive career “On the Banks” in first place all-time with 17 game-winning goals, fourth with 33 goals and 79 points and sixth with 187 shots.
