PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 19, 2014) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team has officially signed seven players to its 2014 recruiting class, the program announced Monday. Torie Ahde (Jackson Township, New Jersey), Bree Benedict (Jamison, Pennsylvania), Casey Murphy (Bridgewater, New Jersey), Courtney Norton (Mount Laurel, New Jersey) Brianna Scarola (Chester, New Jersey), Jesse Sexton (Marietta, Georgia) and Kate Walters (Mount Laurel, New Jersey) will join the Scarlet Knights this fall, when the program enters its first season in the Big Ten Conference. Walters will redshirt her first season “On the Banks” after suffering a knee injury.
Midfielder • 5’4’’
Jackson Township, New Jersey • Jackson Memorial HS | Match Fit Beat
Prior to Rutgers: Four-year starting midfielder at Jackson Memorial HS … led the squad to the A-South Championship in 2009 and 2010 … played for the ODP State Team from 2008-10 and Region I ODP Team from 2009-10 … played club soccer for Match Fit Beat … team was a finalist at the U.S. National Championships in 2013 and won the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in 2011 … in 2011, the team also finished as the Region I Premier League North Champions, going undefeated … in 2009, the squad won the NJYS National Championship Star Cup, CASL Tournament, Stars of Massachusetts Tournament and Spirit United Tournament … recorded a perfect GPA throughout high school career.
Personal: Daughter of Tom and Suzanne Ahde … has one brother, Thomas … intends to major in kinesiology … born on Oct. 20, 1995.
Crooks on Ahde: “Torie is a wonderful attacking player who can either be a target or run out of the midfield. The thing that stands out is the range of her shots and service. She has a natural left foot and a lethal shot whether during the run of play or off a set piece.”

Prior to Rutgers: Played two years at Penn State-Abington … helped guide the squad to a 2011 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship … named first team all-league and conference tournament MVP … a three-year varsity starter in goal at CB West HS … named first team all-league in her senior season, recording 19 shutouts while not allowing a goal in league play … led the squad to 2010 Continental Conference Championship … captain of PA Rush 93F under coach Seth Friedman.
Personal: Daughter of Robert and Karen Benedict … has three siblings, Jake, Jordan and Zech … intends to major in economics and business administration … born on March 3, 1993.
Crooks on Benedict: “Bree elected to transfer to Rutgers for the opportunity to compete in the Big Ten Conference. She was regarded as one of the top keepers in Pennsylvania during her senior year in high school. It is great to have a new keeper in the program who is ready to compete and already has collegiate experience.”

Bridgewater, New Jersey • Bridgewater-Raritan HS | PDA Slammers, U18 National Team
Prior to Rutgers: Was a US Soccer U18 National Team pool player in 2013, the same year her PDA Slammers team won the ECNL U17 National Championship … a US Soccer U15 and U14 member …starting goalkeeper that helped guide Bridgewater-Raritan HS to the NJSIAA Group IV State title in 2013 … faced 143 shots and made 131 saves in her senior season, allowing just 12 goals and posting 16 shutouts … won Bridgewater-Raritan HS team MVP award in her senior season … named a First Team selection and Player of the Year by the Courier News (2013) … named First Team All-State and Somerset County Player of the Year by the Star-Ledger (2013) … also named Second Team All-State by the Star-Ledger in 2011 and 2012 … honor roll student … was a student teacher aide at Hillside Intermediate School.
Personal: Daughter of Jill and Michael Murphy … has one brother, Kyle … undecided on major … born on April 25, 1996.
Crooks on Murphy: “Casey is one of the top keepers in the country. She is a complete keeper with soft hands, great feet and the ability to command the box. Casey’s experience with the U18 National Team is expanding her game to even greater heights. She has already won a club national championship with associate head coach Mike O’Neill and assistant coach Meghan Ryan on the PDA Slammers.”

Prior to Rutgers: Named a 2013 girls high school all-American in her final season at Lenape HS … was selected to the NJGSCA All-State Top 20, NJGSCA All-South Region Top 20, SJSCA First Team and was named SJSCA Defender of the Year in her senior season … Burlington County Times Player of the Year and First Team All-County selection (2013) … named First Team All-South Jersey and a First Team Olympic Conference All-star by the Philadelphia Inquirer (2013) … led Lenape to NJSIAA Group IV State Championships in 2010 and 2011 … team was also a state semifinalist in 2012 and 2013 … made the Lenape HS Academic Honor Roll from 2011-13 … a Region I ODP player, competing in Spain and Portugal in 2013.
Personal: Daughter of Bill and Colleen Norton … has one brother, Kyle … intends to major in exercise science and nutrition … born on Sept. 12, 1995.
Crooks on Norton: “Courtney is a strong, versatile player and will have an opportunity to provide an immediate impact in the back or in the midfield. She is a very technical player who has an understanding of how to control the game along the back line, while possessing the skills to move forward and be dangerous in the attack.”

Chester, New Jersey • West Morris Mendham HS | PDA Ginga, NJ Blaze U20
Prior to Rutgers: A two-year varsity letterwinner at West Morris Mendham HS … played eight years of club soccer under head coach Adam Sparrey, which included time with the Patriots Futbol Club (PFC) Villa (2006-10), Mount Oliver Premier (2010-13) and Stronghold Soccer Club (SSC) in 2014 ... also played for the NJ Blaze U20 in 2013 and PDA Ginga in 2014 … an honor roll student.
Personal: Daughter of Frank and Bernadette Scarola … has two siblings, Frank and Danielle … intends to major in exercise science … born on Dec. 25, 1995.
Crooks on Scarola: “Brianna is a great student-athlete who we discovered after she was trained by our keeper coach, Josh Osit. She works extremely hard in training and understands the game while organizing her backs. We are excited that Brianna will add more quality depth to a very key position.”

Prior to Rutgers: Played four years of varsity soccer at Allen C. Pope HS under coach Trey Daniel … led the team in scoring from 2011-13 while setting a new school record with 101 goals and 26 assists … guided her team to the GHAS AAAA Region 5 Championships and state quarterfinals from 2011-13 … ODP member since 2007 … competed for the ODP state team (2007-12), ODP Region III Camp (2008-11), ODP Region III Pool (2010-11) and ODP Region III International Team that played in Germany and France (2011) … was a member of the ODP National Championship team in 2012 … played club soccer for the Atlanta Fire United U-18 ECNL under head coach Demetrius Donald … won the Georgia State Championship with the Atlanta Fire United U-15 (2011).

Crooks on Sexton: “Jessie will provide pace and a goal scoring mentality to our front line and I’m certain she will be able to handle the rigors of the Big Ten. The first time I saw her play was against boys and she had two goals while dealing with the physical play of the back line.”

Prior to Rutgers: Played club soccer for the Mount Laurel Crush, PDA Crush and PDA Slammers …was on a Slammers team that won the 2013 ECNL National Championship ... the Crush were state finalists in three years of her years with the team and won the State Cup in 2013 … attended the US Id2 National Training Camp (2011) and Nike ID Camp (2013) … involved with ODP, playing on the state team and attending the Region I camp in 2008 and 2010 ... played varsity soccer at Lenape HS for just one season as a freshman… led the team in goals and was named first team all-south Jersey, first team all-county and The Burlington Times Player of the Year … led the Indians to an NJSIAA Group IV State Championship in 2010 …
Personal: Daughter of Ed and Denise Walters … has two siblings, Jessica and Sam … undecided on major … born on Nov. 6, 1995.
Crooks on Walters: “The injury to Kate was unfortunate since she was at the top of her game. I first saw Kate while training her on the U15 ODP team. We won a national championship together – along with current RU rising sophomores Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, New Jersey), Tori Prager (Mount Laurel, New Jersey) and Erin Smith (Medford Lakes, New Jersey) – and over the last year, Kate has played for Coach O’Neill and Coach Ryan on the national champion PDA Slammers. She is a dynamic attacking midfielder who will score goals and create opportunities for others. She is a soccer junkie and when she is not playing the game she is watching it.”
