  • ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct 18, 2013) – Despite a 12th-minute goal by sophomore Erica Skroski (Galloway, N.J.), the Rutgers women’s soccer team fell to No. 21/18 UCF, 2-1, Friday night at the UCF Soccer Complex.

Redshirt senior Jess Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.) made six saves in the loss for RU (11-3-1, 4-2 American), as UCF (12-2-2, 5-0-1 American) scored a pair of second half goals within three minutes of each other to secure the victory.

UCF turned the match around in the second half, scoring two goals in a three-minute span to take a 2-1 lead. The Knights’ Jennifer Martin tied the match in the 63rd minute on a free kick from 25 yards out.

Three minutes later, Katla Ademk cleaned up a rebound and connected with hit the back of the net near the far post to give UCF a 2-1 lead.

UCF recorded the most shots against RU (15) since the squad surrendered 13 in a 3-2 win over Memphis on Oct. 4. The Scarlet Knights have allowed 15 shots or more in just five matches this season.

For the Scarlet Knights, it was their first loss since 2009 after entering halftime with the lead. The only other defeat came in the form of a 2-1 loss to No. 21 San Diego in 2009. RU is now 30-2-1since 2008 when leading at the half.

Skroski got RU on the board in the 12th minute by getting inside the box and driving the goal into the far post to give the Scarlet Knights a 1-0 lead. Freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.)  tallied the assist on the play – her fourth of the season – as Skroski notched her second career goal.

It was Skroski’s second-straight match with a goal after going 33-straight games without a point to start her career.

Redshirt senior Jonelle FIligno (Mississauga, Canada) did not play for Rutgers per NCAA regulations after earning a red card in RU’s 1-0 victory against SMU on Oct. 13 at Yurcak Field.

The Scarlet Knights are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 20 AT 1 p.m., when they face another Florida foe in USF.
