Charlottesville, Va. (September 8, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team tied William and Mary, 1-1, Sunday afternoon in its final match of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. The Scarlet Knights (4-1-1) outshot the Tribe, 17-7, but could not cross the game-winner after senior Maria Gerew (Toms River, N.J.) scored RU’s lone goal in the 39th minute on an assist from classmate Tricia DiPaolo (Sparta, N.J.).
William and Mary’s Emory Camper notched the equalizer in the 46th minute of play at Klöckner Stadium, as she blasted a shot from 15 yards out passed redshirt senior Jess Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.). Janosz made two saves in the tie, which dropped her record to 4-1-1 this season and 10-4-1 for her career.
Gerew recorded her first goal of 2013 and third of her career, as both her and DiPaolo tallied their first points of the season.
The Scarlet Knights return to Piscataway on Friday, Sept. 13 for a match with Bryant. The contest will be broadcast live on RVision, presented by AT&T, and marks the first of three doubleheaders with Rutgers men’s soccer this season. The men’s squad will face Princeton at 8 p.m. following the women’s soccer team’s 5 p.m. match.
