PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 29, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team continues its 2013 slate on Friday, Aug. 30, when the Scarlet Knights (2-0) welcome Delaware (0-2) to Piscataway for a 7 p.m. match at Yurcak Field. RU will continue its first full weekend at home with a 1 p.m. Sunday match against Fordham, which will be broadcast live on RVision presented by AT&T on scarletknights.com.

Rutgers looks to improve to 3-0 for ninth time and 4-0 for the sixth time in the program’s 30-year history.

The team enters its weekend competition after posting a 2-0 opening weekend that saw a pair of Scarlet Knights achieve career firsts. Freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) and junior Sara Corson (Metuchen, N.J.) each tallied their first career points over the weekend, with Corson becoming the first RU player to record a five-point match (2g, 1a) in two seasons.

Tiernan scored her first career goal in RU’s season-opening, 1-0 victory over Drexel at Yurcak Field and recorded her first assist in the 3-2 win at Army. Both were selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Aug. 26 .

Redshirt senior Jess Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.) earned two wins and one shutout to bump her career record to 8-3. The netminder owns 167:25 consecutive minutes of scoreless soccer through RU’s first two matches.

Delaware visits Yurcak Field looking for its first win of the 2013 season after dropping a pair of close matches to start the year. St. John’s narrowly defeated the Blue Hens, 2-1, in their season-opener, as the Red Storm’s Morgan Tinari scored the game-winner in the 79th minute for the victory. Monmouth topped Delaware, 1-0, in its second match with a goal in the 41st minute. Despite seven shots on goal, the Blue Hens could not break through for the game-tying score in regulation.

Michelle McEnroe owns UDel’s only goal through two matches, while goalkeeper Jessica Levy has recorded nine saves en route to a 1.50 goals against average (GAA). Delaware head coach Scott Grzenda is in his 24th season at the helm of the Blue Hens. Grzenda welcomes back 14 letterwinners and four starters from the 2012 squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament.

Fordham will venture “On the Banks” also looking for its first tally in the win column. The Rams suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in overtime to open the season against Manhattan, despite outshooting the Jaspers, 25-9. The team then suffered a setback in its second match, losing, 5-0, to St. John’s in Queens, N.Y.

Kristina Makusuti leads the Rams with one goal on seven shots, with Mary Solimine recording five shots through two matches.  Both Megan Fitzgerald and Ally White have seen time in between the pipes for head coach Ness Selmani, as Fitzgerald and White boast a 0.97 and 6.00 GAA, respectively.

The match, slated for 1 p.m. at Yurcak Field, will be broadcast live on RVision, presented by AT&T. Danny Breslauer and Kyle Franko will be on the call.
