  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 9, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team had 19 members selected to the 2012-13 Big East All-Academic Team, the conference announced Wednesday.

“Part of our Rutgers standard is a shared responsibility that maximum effort will not only be exhibited on the pitch but also with academics,” said head coach Glenn Crooks. “The players have created a culture of academic excellence. I want to acknowledge my staff, which emphasizes the balance between academics and soccer.  I especially would like to thank our academic advisor, Randi Larson, whose commitment to her student-athletes has been integral in developing this culture.”

The 19 members of last year’s squad that were selected include Paige Alexander (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Brielle Buis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), Amanda Devolk (Frisco, Texas), Tricia DiPaolo (Sparta, N.J.), Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada), Maria Gerew (Toms River, N.J.), Cassie Inacio (Manalapan, N.J.), Jess Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.), Alana Jimenez (Ocean, N.J.), Morgan Kennedy (Wall, N.J.), Maura McLaughlin (Robbinsville, N.J.), Maggie Morash (Bernardsville, N.J.), Gabby Moreno (Severna, Md.), Brianne Reed (Tinton Falls, N.J.), Stefanie Scholz (South Hackensack, N.J.), Erica Skroski (Galloway, N.J.), Erica Sousa (Franklin Square, N.Y.), Sam Valliant (Markham, Ontario, Canada), and Shannon Woeller (Vancouver, Canada).

To be named to the all-academic team, a nominee must have competed in a Big East-sponsored sport, attained a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
