PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 6, 2013) – As part of the Rutgers women’s soccer newcomer series, the program announced the additions of Shannon Phillips (Greenelt, Md.), Jenna Seddon (Galloway, N.J) and Erin Smith (Medford Lakes, N.J.) to its youthful group of backs. Seddon and Phillips look to bolster what has proven to be one of the staples of the Scarlet Knights’ roster over the past five seasons, while Phillips will receive a medical redshirt following rehabilitation from knee surgery.
“Erin and Jenna offer great athleticism as fullbacks,” said head coach Glenn Crooks. “They will provide dynamic attacking movement out of the back with the desire and ability to recover and defend. Shannon is coming off knee surgery and will not compete this fall. She has a strong presence at center back so we will miss that.”
RU begins its preparations for the regular season tomorrow, as practice for the 2013 season will get underway.
The Scarlet Knights will compete in two scrimmages – at West Virginia on Aug. 13 and home vs. Richmond on Aug. 17 – before playing their season-opener at Yurcak Field on Friday, Aug. 23 against Drexel.
