PISCATAWAY, NJ – A trio of Rutgers women’s soccer players have been singled out for Mid-Atlantic Region honors by Soccerbuzz.
Junior All-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region All-First Team, sophomore Kim Brandao (Rahway, NJ) was named to the All-Second Team, and Robyn Jones (Titusville, NJ) was named to the All-Freshman Team as well as the Freshman Co-Goalkeeper of the Year.
Lloyd, a midfielder, led RU with 28 points (13 G, 2 A) this fall, earning third-team National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-America honors, first-team all-BIG EAST Conference accolades for the third consecutive year, and receiving a spot on the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region All-First Team. As a sophomore, Lloyd was named to the Soccerbuzz All-America Second Team and the Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. In 2001, she was the group’s Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the Freshman All-America Team.
Brandao, a back, was named to the 2003 All-BIG EAST Second Team and the NSCAA All-Region Third Team. She scored one goal, starting every match for the Scarlet Knights, and twice was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 22, Oct. 20) this season. Last year, Brandao was named to the Soccerbuzz Mid-Atlantic Region All-Freshman Team and the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.
Jones posted a 0.92 goals-against average, .759 save percentage and seven shutouts during her rookie campaign.
The Rutgers women’s soccer team (10-7-5, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) advanced to the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament and the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
