Piscataway, N.J. (Jan. 7, 2013) – Rutgers women’s soccer redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) added to her postseason accolades on Monday, as the forward was named the Big Apple Soccer Player of the Year.
This caps a stellar 2012 season for Filigno, both internationally and with the Scarlet Knights, and the forward will be among the finalists for the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, awarded to the national player of the year.
Filigno, a NSCAA All-America Second Team honoree, ranked first in the BIG EAST in game-winning goals (7), second in points (35) and second in goals (15). In the NCAA, Filigno finished third in game winners, ninth in goals and 18th in points.
The Olympic bronze medalist finished the season among the top of several categories in the RU record book, both season and career. Filigno tied for first in single season goals, first in game winners and third in points. For her career, the forward currently sits third in game-winning scores (12), fifth in goals (25) and sixth in points (60).
