Piscataway, N.J. (Dec. 9, 2012) – Rutgers women’s soccer redshirt junior forward Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) capped a stellar 2012 season, both internationally and with the Scarlet Knights, by earning All-America Second Team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Filigno becomes the eighth Scarlet Knight to be selected as an All-American by the NSCAA and first since Jen Anzivino in 2009.
Filigno, a NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team and All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, ranked first in the BIG EAST in game-winning goals (7), second in points (35) and goals (15). In the NCAA, Filigno finished third in game winners, ninth in goals and 18th in points.
The Olympic bronze medalist finished the season among the top of several categories in the RU record book, both season and career. Filigno tied for first in single season goals, first in game winners and third in points. For her career, the forward currently sits third in game-winning scores (12), fifth in goals (25) and sixth in points (60).
The honorees will be recognized Saturday, Jan. 19 at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 2013 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.
