PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 11, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team jumped to No. 16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, the organization announced Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights also rank No. 20 according to Soccer America.
This ties the highest ranking of the season for the Scarlet Knights after starting the year unranked. RU sat at No. 21 last week in the coaches’ poll. Rutgers appeared at No. 25 in Soccer America’s Poll in week two.
Led by redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) and redshirt senior Tricia DiPaolo (Sparta, N.J.), the Scarlet Knights went 2-0 over the weekend. Filigno notched two late goals in the 2-1 win at Dartmouth and added an assist against Stony Brook for a five-point weekend. DiPaolo aided the back line that held opponents to a 10.0 shot per game average, while also assisted a Filigno goal against the Big Green.
Both Filigno and DiPaolo were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Filigno ranks No. 2 in the nation in game-winning goals (four) and sixth in total goals scored (seven).
The Scarlet Knights start a four-game homestand Friday night against Villanova. Opening BIG EAST play, RU will kick off at 8 p.m. following the men’s game against Charleston.
