PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 10, 2012) – Rutgers women’s soccer redshirt senior Tricia DiPaolo (Sparta, N.J.) and redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.

The selection marks the first weekly honors for DiPaolo this season. Filigno previously earned consecutive BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolades.

Filigno surpassed her goal total from a season ago and now stands atop the BIG EAST with seven goals after scoring twice Sunday against Dartmouth. The forward also recorded an assist Friday night against Stony Brook, marking a five-point weekend.

Filigno’s first goal came with the Scarlet Knights facing a 1-0 deficit against the Big Green 16 minutes into the second half. With the game tied in the 88th minute, DiPaolo found an open Filigno who buried it past the DC keeper for a 2-1 victory and her fourth game winner of 2012.

Along with earning her first points since Oct. 2010 with the assist, DiPaolo also spearheaded a stifling Scarlet Knights defensive effort in both games over the weekend. DiPaolo and the backline limited the opposition to just 10 shots on the weekend, as the Sparta, N.J., product logged 155 minutes of action.

DiPaolo, Filigno and the rest of the Scarlet Knights start a four-game home stand Friday night against Villanova. Opening BIG EAST play, RU will kickoff at 8 p.m. following the men’s game against Charleston.
