PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 28, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team earned a No. 16 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll this week after posting the best start to a season since 2007, the organization announced Tuesday.
This marks Rutgers’ highest ranking in the NSCAA Poll since Sept. 15, 2009 (No. 16). RU downed Bucknell, 2-1, and Siena, 1-0, to earn 279 points in this week’s poll.
RU was paced by redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada), who was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight time after scoring two goals, including one game winner, over the weekend.
Redshirt senior Shannon Woeller (Vancouver, Canada) has led the defensive charge, as the Scarlet Knights have allowed just one goal on the season. Redshirt junior Jessica Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.) has earned four wins for RU, as she and redshirt senior Emmy Simpkins (Concord, N.C.) have split three shutouts.
Rutgers hits the road next weekend for two games in College Station, Texas. RU will face No. 14 Texas A&M on Friday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. followed by Sam Houston State on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
