PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 27, 2012) – For the second-straight week, Rutgers women’s soccer redshirt junior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The forward becomes the first RU field player to win conference weekly honors in consecutive weeks.
Continuing her torrid scoring pace, Filigno scored two goals, including a game winner, in a 2-0 week for the Scarlet Knights. Filigno tallied both scores in a 2-1 win over Bucknell on Friday before helping the team to a 1-0 win over Siena on Sunday.
Melissa Henderson (Notre Dame) was the last player to win consecutive BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 2010.
The Scarlet Knights are 4-0-0 for the first time since 2007. With her game-winning goal against the Bison, Filigno moves into a tie for sixth all-time in the RU career record book with eight game winners.
Filigno and the rest of the Scarlet Knights head to College Station, Texas for contests against No. 12 Texas A&M and Sam Houston State.
