  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 16, 2012) – Kicking off the 2012-13 athletic slate, Rutgers women’s soccer travels to Monmouth Friday, Aug. 16, before returning home to host RV Ohio State Sunday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m.

Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live through the Monmouth website, www.gomuhawks.com. Sunday’s home match against the Buckeyes will be shown on RVision, presented by AT&T, with Danny Breslauer and Kyle Franko on the call.

The Scarlet Knights are looking for their 300th win in program history. All-time, RU has collected a 299-205-56 record through 28 seasons.

Rutgers welcomes back eight starters, including 2012 Olympic bronze medalist and All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada), who led the team in scoring last season. A 2011 All-BIG EAST Third Team honoree, senior captain Shannon Woeller (Vancouver, Canada) will anchor the back line.

Monmouth, picked to finish third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll, finished the 2011 campaign with an 11-8-0 record to claim its sixth-straight double-digit victory season under head coach Krissy Turner. The Hawks return three All-NEC performers, led by junior attack Dana Costello, who totaled five goals and 10 assists in 2011. NEC All-Rookie goalkeeper Jocelyn McCoy will be between the pipes for MU.

Rutgers holds a 13-2-1 all-time record against Monmouth, winning eight of the last 10 meetings. In 2010, the Hawks edged the Scarlet Knights, 1-0, on a Costello goal in the fifth minute.

Ohio State, receiving votes in the preseason NSCAA Poll, will face Hofstra on Friday night before heading to Piscataway. The Buckeyes were picked third in the Big Ten Preseason Poll and return six starters from a squad that finished 12-9-2 and advanced to its second-consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 a season ago.

RU won the lone match in the series vs. OSU, a 1-0 victory in Columbus on Sept. 12, 2008.
