PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore Kim Brandao (Rahway, NJ) and freshman Robyn Jones (Titusville, NJ) have been named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive and Co-Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Oct. 20.
Brandao, a back, scored her first collegiate goal to lift Rutgers to a 1-0 victory at Virginia Tech Oct. 19. She also helped the Scarlet Knights post a pair of shutouts in two wins last week, as RU’s two opponents averaged just 5.5 shots per match.
Jones posted a pair of 1-0 shutouts for the Scarlet Knights last week, making three saves against Villanova Oct. 15 and three stops against Virginia Tech Oct. 19. Jones now has seven shutouts this season to rank tied for eighth in single-season shutouts and seventh on the career list.
This marks the second time this season that both Brandao and Jones have been honored by the BIG EAST. Brandao was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 22, while Jones was selected the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week Oct. 6.
Rutgers (9-4-4, 2-1-1 BIG EAST), under the direction of fourth-year head coach Glenn Crooks, will host No. 2 Notre Dame Friday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m. RU will celebrate Senior Day Sunday, Oct. 26, when the Scarlet Knights wrap up the regular season against Georgetown at 1:00 p.m.
