PISCATAWAY, NJ – Freshmen Domenique Esposito (Rivervale, NJ) and Robyn Jones (Titusville, NJ) have been named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Rookie and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Esposito, a midfielder/forward, scored the lone goal in Rutgers’ 1-0 victory at Seton Hall Oct. 1 in the Scarlet Knights’ BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic Division opener. Appearing in just her third collegiate match after missing the beginning of the season due to an injury, Esposito knocked in the game winner with less than 13 minutes to play. She shared this week’s Rookie-of-the-Week award with Seton Hall’s Rita Massot.
Jones posted a pair of 1-0 shutouts for the Scarlet Knights last week, making one save at Seton Hall and one stop at Syracuse Oct. 3 in a BIG EAST cross-divisional match. The rookie has had four shutouts in her last five starts in goal, with an overall goals-against average of 0.55 and a save percentage of .812.
Esposito and Jones were the second and third Scarlet Knights to be singled out by the BIG EAST this season, following Kim Brandao’s (Rahway, NJ) selection as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22.
Rutgers (7-3-2, 1-0 BIG EAST), under the direction of fourth-year head coach Glenn Crooks, will host No. 21 Princeton Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
