The Rutgers women’s soccer team was selected to finish tied for eighth with Iowa in the 2014 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the league announced Wednesday. RU enters its first season in the Big Ten Conference having played just one game against a league opponent since 2010.

The Rutgers women’s soccer team defeated No. 12 West Virginia, 4-2, Tuesday afternoon at Yurcak Field in its first scrimmage of the preseason. Four different Scarlet Knights scored for Rutgers in the opening half.

Rutgers women’s soccer senior forward Stef Scholz was named to the Big Ten Preseason All-Conference Second Team by College Sports Madness. Scholz enjoyed a stellar junior season in which she scored 10 goals and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team.

August-06-14 Alberto Named Volunteer Director of Women’s Soccer Operations
The Rutgers women’s soccer program announced Wednesday that Rich Alberto will serve as the program’s volunteer director of operations in its inaugural Big Ten season. A Rutgers University alumnus, Alberto joins the RU staff after serving in roles with numerous club programs.

August-05-14 Jonelle Filigno Named Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award Winner
Former Rutgers women’s soccer star Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) was named the American Athletic Conference’s Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner for women’s soccer for the 2013 season.

August-05-14 DiPaolo Joins Women’s Soccer Staff
The Rutgers women’s soccer program announced Tuesday the addition of former Scarlet Knight Tricia DiPaolo to its staff as a volunteer assistant coach. DiPaolo, a four-year captain and seven-year player for RU, served as an integral part of the Scarlet Knights’ success in her career.

Four former Rutgers women’s soccer standouts will reunite as professionals Thursday in Piscataway, including Carli Lloyd (2001-04) and Kristen Edmonds (2005-08) for the WNY Flash and Jonelle Filigno (2010-13) and Tricia DiPaolo (2007-13) for Sky Blue.
