Rutgers played the match without senior David Boutilier (Sparta, NJ), who received a red card on Wednesday vs. Seton Hall and Gustavo Mora (Asuncion, Paraguay), who suffered a leg injury early in the match.
The deciding play of the match came in the 24th minute, when RU goalkeeper Ricky Zinter (Penfield, NY) failed to clear a ball, setting up the Hoya goal.
A failed pass made its way to Zinter, but GU’s Kemmons Feldman blocked his clearing kick and redirected the ball into the goal.
Rutgers’ offense was held in check by Georgetown, which moved into a defensive mode for the remainder of the match. In the final 15 minutes of play, Rutgers registered several key chances, as Brian Johnson (Marshfield, MA), Chris Karcz (Clifton, NJ) and Steve Loverso (Warwick, NY) all had solid chances.
Rutgers out-shot Georgetown, 15-10, and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Zinter stopped three shots while his counterpart, Tim Hogan, turned away five shots.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Wednesday, September 25 when they travel to Villanova for face the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m.
