The clinic is designed to teach volunteer coaches proper training techniques, including warm-ups, possession and goalkeeper play, with an emphasis on injury prevention.
“More children are participating in youth soccer leagues, and there is a strong demand for volunteer coaches. Many of them are coaching this sport for the first time,” said Gregg Heinzmann, Director of the Youth Sports Research Council (YSRC), a Division of the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Studies at Rutgers. “Our instructors will provide fundamental coaching concepts that will help these volunteer coaches teach soccer sport safely.”
The clinic is a cooperative effort between YSRC and the Rutgers athletic department, and is sponsored by HealthSouth, a Birmingham, Ala.-based provider of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative health care services.
The deadline for registration is Feb. 19. The $25 fee includes lunch. For more information, call (732) 932-6537.
