Men's Soccer Takes on Cincinnati in First Round of American Athletic Conference Tournament
Winner Between Scarlet Knights & Bearcats Advance to Play Top-Seeded Louisville

  • PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 3, 2013)  – With regular season play concluded, the field for the inaugural Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship has been set.

    No. 8 Rutgers (5-10-2, 2-5-1) will square up against No. 9 Cincinnati (6-11-1, 1-7) in the lone first round game, to be played Friday afternoon at Louisville. The winner of that game will then face No. 1 Louisville the next day.

    Louisville won the regular season title by going 5-1-2 in the conference, edging UConn by one point. The Cardinals, who were 11-3-3 overall, led The American with 30 goals, and boast the league leader in points in Ricardo Velazco, who had seven goals and nine assists for 23 points.

    The Cardinals will host the first round game between No. 8 Rutgers and No. 9 Cincinnati on Friday, with the winner of that game facing Louisville on Saturday.

    The 2013 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship will culminate in Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium, for the semifinals and title game of the tournament. The semifinals will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Central Time), and both games will be streamed on TheAmerican.org. The title game is set for Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m. (Central Time) and will be streamed live on ESPN3.

    Game 2 – USF (6-3-8, 2-2-4) at No. 4 Temple (10-3-4, 3-1-4), 1:00 p.m.

    Game 3 - No. 6 Memphis (9-7-1, 3-5) at No. 3 UCF (7-4-5, 4-1-3), 2:30 p.m.

    Game 4 – No. 7 SMU (3-11-2, 2-4-2) at No. 2 UConn (9-2-5, 4-0-4), 5:00 p.m.

    Game 5 – Winner of Game 1 at No. 1 Louisville (11-3-3, 5-1-2), 7:00 p.m.

    Friday, November 15 – Two games (Semifinals)
