PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 16, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team picked up its first weekly American Athletic Conference (AAC) honors with sophomore midfielder Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.) named Offensive Player of the Week and freshman David Greczek (Fairfield, N.J.) earning Goalkeeper of the Week. Both were vital contributors in RU’s 2-0 week that included a 3-2 win over in-state rival Princeton and a 3-0 shutout against South Carolina.
Corboz, who earlier today was named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week, captured a trio of goals and a pair of assists on the week. Corboz found the back of the net twice in RU’s 3-2 win over the Tigers on Friday night marking second straight year he has scored twice against Princeton. He followed with the game-winning goal and assists on the other two Scarlet Knight tallies in the 3-0 shutout of South Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
On the season, Corboz has a team-leading five goals, two assists and 12 points. The Scarlet Knight currently leads the AAC in points and ranks second in goals.
Greczek posted a .818 save percentage and 1.0 goals against average in RU’s 2-0 week, including earning his first career shutout. Greczek registered five saves in the Friday night win over the Tigers in addition to making the assist on the game-winner. He followed by capturing his first career shutout on Sunday in RU’s 3-0 victory making five stops against the Gamecocks.
On the year Greczek holds a .784 save percentage and 1.25 GAA along with averaging 4.83 saves per game. The rookie netminder leads the American in saves with 29 stops.
The Rutgers men’s soccer team (3-2-1) opens up conference action and closes out its five game homestand on Friday at 8 p.m. against SMU.
