PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 22, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team hosts Virginia on Saturday, August 24 at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field in its final exhibition tune up prior to the kick-off of the 2013 season. Admission is free.
The Cavaliers rank No. 25 in the preseason NSCAA Poll and defeated Radford 2-0 in a preseason match-up on Tuesday. Virginia reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and ended last season with a 10-7-4 record, including a 3-4-1 mark in the ACC. The Cavaliers return 18 letterwinners and 10 starters from last year’s squad.
The Scarlet Knights return 13 letterwinners and eight starters from last year’s squad and welcome seven newcomers in a recruiting class that was ranked as high as No. 22 by Top Drawer Soccer. RU scrimmaged in-state rival Monmouth to a scoreless tie in their first exhibition game.
The regular season gets underway at the Duke Soccer Classic with RU opening against the host Blue Devils on August 30 followed by a meeting with Elon on September 1. The Scarlet Knights host Penn State for an early taste of Big Ten action in their home opener on September 6.
In all, this year’s schedule features 11 home dates at Yurcak Field, competition against eight teams that reached the 2012 NCAA Tournament and three squads ranked in the top ten of the final polls.
Season tickets for RU men’s soccer are now on sale and are $50 for adults, $40 for children 12 & under and seniors 55 & older. All packages include a free t-shirt. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 732-907-1570.
