  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 19, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team takes on Monmouth on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the first of two exhibition contests prior to the start of the 2013 season.

The Scarlet Knights return 13 letterwinners and eight starters from last year’s squad and welcome seven newcomers in a recruiting class that was ranked as high as No. 22 by Top Drawer Soccer.

Rutgers returns five of its top six goal scorers from a year ago, including returning leading scorer, senior Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) and freshman All-American Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.).  Eze led the Knights last season with eight goals, including four game-winners.  A Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, he ranked seventh in the league in points per game and fifth in goals per game.  Corboz was a Second Team Freshman All-American by College Soccer News and Soccer America following a rookie season that saw him score three goals and assist on seven others.  Also named Second Team All-BIG EAST and earning a nod to the conference’s All-Rookie Team, Corboz’s seven assists were the most by a Scarlet Knights since 2001.  Both were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Preseason squads.

Rutgers has one final tune-up before the start of the regular season in hosting Virginia on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Yurcak Field.

The regular season gets underway at the Duke Soccer Classic with RU opening against the host Blue Devils on August 30 followed by a meeting with Elon on September 1.  The Scarlet Knights host Penn State for an early taste of Big Ten action in their home opener on September 6.

In all, this year’s schedule features 11 home dates at Yurcak Field, competition against eight teams that reached the 2012 NCAA Tournament and three squads ranked in the top ten of the final polls.

Season tickets for RU men’s soccer are now on sale and are $50 for adults, $40 for children 12 & under and seniors 55 & older. All packages include a free t-shirt.  Season tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 732-907-1570.
