PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 12, 2012) – Led by goals from brothers Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) and Olisa Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), the Rutgers soccer team (6-5-1, 2-2-1) edged DePaul by a score of 2-1 Friday night at Yurcak Field.
It marked the first collegiate match that both Eze brothers have scored. Kene Eze has scored five goals over the last six matches. Corboz continues to pace RU with six assists.
Kene Eze struck first, wasting no time getting the Scarlet Knights on the board. The junior scored just 29 seconds into the match off a dish from freshman Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.). Corboz chipped a pass to the forward on the right side of the box and Eze was able to bury the shot into the right side of the net.
Olisa Eze posted the first goal of his career in the 22nd minute. Corboz took a free kick from the left sideline, curving the ball into the box. The freshman beat the DPU defenders to the net, heading a shot past goalkeeper Eric Sorby to give the Scarlet Knights a 2-0 advantage.
DePaul (3-9-2, 0-5) answered with a goal from Jared Blincow in the 47th minute. David Selvaggi saved the ball off the back line, heading it into the box. Blincow buried it to put the Blue Demons within one.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) and the RU defense withstood an offensive attack in the second stanza. DPU was able to get off 10 shots, as McMullen made six saves over the final 45 minutes.
Rutgers will be back at Yurcak Field on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Scarlet Knights take on St. John’s at 7 p.m.
