Rutgers Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Three-Game Road Swing with No. 1 Maryland

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 8, 2012) – Wrapping up a tough road swing, Rutgers men’s soccer travels to College Park, Md., to face No. 1 Maryland on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Ludwig Field.

    The contest will be streamed live on TerpsTV Premium. Live stats will also be available on GameTracker.

    The Scarlet Knights (5-4-1) enter the game after earning a 2-2 draw against No. 17 USF on Saturday night. Junior forward Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) scored a goal for the fourth-straight match to force Saturday’s game into overtime. Freshman midfielder Marl Corboz (Greenbrook, N.J.) scored and added an assist in the match, while senior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) racked up five saves in the game.

    Eze leads the team with five goals, including three game winners. Corboz paces the team in assists (four), adding three goals on the year. Between the pipes, McMullen has tallied 47 saves (1.07 GAA) with three shutouts.

    Maryland owns a 3-1 all-time series edge against Rutgers. The two teams last met on October 4, 2011. RU dropped a 2-1 decision in the match at Ludwig Stadium.

    The Terps (9-0-1) remain undefeated after a 1-0 victory over Virginia on Friday night. The lone goal came from junior forward Patrick Mullins, who leads the team in goals (six). Schillo Tshuma, Jake Pace and John Stertzer have each added four goals apiece.

    In the net for UM will be sophomore goalkeeper Keith Cardona. Cardona has allowed just six goals through eight games, maintaining a 0.73 GAA with five shutouts.

    In his 20th season with Maryland, head coach Sasho Cirovski is the winningest coach in program history, bringing the Terps two NCAA titles.
