PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 1, 2012) - Rutgers men’s soccer (5-3, 1-1) looks to win its third-straight match, hitting the road on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to take on BIG EAST foe Syracuse. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Complex.
On Sunday, junior forward Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) notched his third game-winning goal of the season, leading the Scarlet Knights over Louisville for the first time since 2008.
Eze paces RU with three goals – all game winners – in 2012. The forward was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as well as the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week on Monday.
Rutgers holds a 10-7-1 all-time record against Syracuse (8-3, 1-1), winning six of the last seven meetings vs. the Orange. The last time the two squads met on Oct. 21, 2011, RU pulled out a 2-1 win. Nate Bruccoleri (Bordentown, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal for the Scarlet Knights.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) will be in net for Rutgers, maintaining a 0.87 GAA with 36 saves. The netminder ranks fourth in the conference in saves per game and sixth in shutouts (three).
Leading Syracuse with 13 points on five goals and three assists is Tony Asante, who will sit out the RU match after a red card. Ted Cribley has added three goals and five assists for 11 points in 2012. Between the pipes will be Alex Bono with a 0.62 goals against average and 30 saves.
