PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 25, 2012) – Rutgers men’s soccer steps out of BIG EAST play to host Central Connecticut State at Yurcak Field on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The Scarlet Knights (3-3) face off against the Blue Devils (2-4-1) for the first time in program history in a match that will be broadcast live on RVision, presented by AT&T.
Last weekend, Rutgers dropped its first BIG EAST match of the season, falling to Georgetown, 1-0. After a scoreless 90 minutes of action, the Hoyas scored the golden goal in the 94th minute, an unassisted tally by Brandon Allen.
Freshman midfielder Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.) has proven to be a vital part of the Scarlet Knights’ offense, leading the team in points (five) and goals (two).
On the defensive end, Rutgers goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) has started and played every single minute for the Scarlet Knights. The senior has given up just five goals on the season. McMullen is in the top five of the BIG EAST rankings for saves (29), save percentage (.853), and shutouts (three).
Rutgers is currently undefeated at home (2-0) this season, winning six of its last seven contests at Yurcak Field.
The Blue Devils enter the game after earning a draw with Stony Brook on Sunday. CCSU conceded the game-tying goal in the 87th minute. Central Connecticut will rely on forwards Eddy Bogle and Reece Wilson. The duo accounts for six of the team’s nine goals this season, including two game winners.
