  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 12, 2012) – Rutgers men’s soccer (2-2), coming off 17-straight days on the road, will return to Yurcak Field to host the College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 14. The contest will be streamed live on RVision, presented by At&T, with Danny Breslauer and Kyle Franco calling the action.

The game will serve as the opening match for a Rutgers soccer doubleheader with the women playing the nightcap, taking on Villanova at 8 p.m.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 2-0 road win at Princeton as freshman midfielder Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.) provided both goals en route to being named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for his performance. The shutout win marked the second this season for Rutgers. The win also snapped a two-game losing streak and ended a two-game scoring draught for RU.

Rutgers has received steady contributions from its freshman class with all of the Scarlet Knights’ eight points coming from a first-year player. Corboz added an assist in the season opener, while classmates Mitchell Taintor (Storrs, Conn.) and Ross Tetro (Colts Neck, N.J.) chipped in a goal and assist, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) has  started each game for the Scarlet Knights posting a pair of shutouts, a 1.00 goals against average and .789 saves percentage with 15 saves.

The College of Charleston is 3-2 overall entering Friday’s contest, coming off a 2-0 loss against UNC Wilmington on Sunday. CofC has managed five goals on the season, led by Ralphie Lundy with two tallies, while three others combine for the remaining three goals. The team’s five assists are split one each among five players. In goal for the College of Charleston is Kees Heemskerk, who has posted two shutouts, a 0.79 goals against average and .852 save percentage.

The two squads met for the third time in school history last year with Rutgers earning a 2-1 win on the road. Junior forward Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) scored his first goal as a Scarlet Knight, the game-winner against the Cougars. RU is 3-0 all-time against CofC, winning the only meeting at Yurcak 1-0 on Oct. 1, 2004.
