  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 17, 2012) – Rutgers men’s soccer will play its last of two preseason exhibition matches on Saturday, Aug. 18, taking on NCAA Tournament participant Northwestern as part of the South Jersey Soccer Festival on the Stockton College campus.

Admission to the match at G. Larry James Stadium is $5 for adults and $2 for seniors and children under 12.

The Scarlet Knights, a Sweet 16 squad from a year ago, returns its top two scorers in Juan Pablo Correa (Montville, N.J.) and Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.). The pair each posted a team-high six goals, while Correa added five assists and Eze chipped in three. Correa concluded his stellar freshman season with a selection to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team and NSCAA Second Team All-Northeast Region honors. This year’s team welcomes 13 newcomers and features 21 players with two years of playing experience or less. Eighteen of the team’s 27 players have yet to see collegiate action.

Rutgers is coming off a 3-1 loss at home against another NCAA Tournament qualifier Colgate on Tuesday, Aug. 14. RU received its lone goal from junior Mike Soboff (Boston, Mass.) on a penalty kick.

Northwestern, Big Ten regular-season and tournament champions a year ago, returns nine starters, including four All-Big Ten honorees, and reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year Tim Lenahan. Northwestern had a stellar defense in 2011, allowing just 0.90 goals per game and shutting out 10 opponents. The entire backfield returns for the Wildcats, including First-Team All-Big Ten goalkeeper Tyler Miller. Returnees on offense include midfielders senior Chris Ritter and junior Lepe Seetane, who both earned Second-Team All-Big Ten accolades in 2011.
