Sexual Assault Services/Crime Victim Assistance
The Department of Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance (SAS/CVA) serves members of the Rutgers community who are victims of interpersonal violence and all types of crime. SAS/CVA offers a range of services to community members affected directly by crime and to those close to them, including counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention services. The department also offers an array of educational and training programs, consultation and policy development services, projects, and special events.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of interpersonal violence, or for more information, contact SAS/CVA:

SCREAM Athletes

SCREAM Theater is a peer educational, interactive theater program created and directed by the university’s Division of Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance (SAS/CVA). The program’s purpose is to educate groups and initiate dialogue about issues of interpersonal violence including sexual assault, dating violence, same-sex violence, stalking, bullying, and peer harassment.

SCREAM Athletes is another program offered by SAS/CVA and is based on the SCREAM model but is specifically geared toward educating student-athletes and encouraging them to use their roles as leaders on campus to prevent interpersonal violence. SCREAM Athletes uses student-athletes as peer educators to explore attitudes, beliefs, community standards, and aspects of the athletic culture that support the occurrence of interpersonal violence, as well as the strengths of the community that can be used to create social change. As athletes, the peer educators understand the pressures, relationships, and stresses that other student-athletes experience. They are also able to identify and emphasize the leadership role that athletes can assume on these issues.

SCREAM Athletes performs for all first, second, and third-year student-athletes at Rutgers, for university coaches, for student-athletes at colleges and high schools locally and nationwide, and at conferences.
