ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

National College Athlete Honor Society (CHI ALPHA SIGMA)

Selection depends on the following criteria:
1. Must achieve at least junior academic standing as determined by the certifying institution.
2. Must achieve a cumulative 3.4 (on a 4.0 grade point scale) or equivalent grade point average by the time of the selection process.
3. Must earn a letter in a varsity intercollegiate sport (s).
4. Must be of good moral character.
5. College or university must be a member of the NCAA or the NAIA,
6. Must have endorsement from the head coach of his/her sport
7. University or college must certify junior standing and grade point average.
8. Must be recommended by the Chapter Advisor.

Athletic Director’s Excellence Award

This award will be given to any student/athlete who has met the following four criteria:
1. Attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick for at least four semesters
2. Accumulated a grade point average of 3.5 or better through the year of award consideration.
3. Earned All-American honors nationally (minimum: “honorable mention”) or regionally (“1st team” only) during the year of award consideration.
4. Demonstrated leadership and character and the performance of community service will be considered by the Special Awards Committee.

The Director’s Honor Roll
Student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher during an academic semester

Director’s Award
Recognition to the team with the highest GPA for the academic year

Presidents Award
Certificate awarded each year to any student-athlete who has achieved a 4.0 grade point average in any semester during the academic year

Scholar Athlete Award
An award given to the letter winner of each varsity squad with the highest cumulative grade-point average for the current year

Governor’s Award
This award is presented to a member of an athletic team that has received the scholar athlete award multiple times.

Trustee’s Award
This award is presented to a student-athlete that has been awarded the team MVP honor more than once.

Big East Academic All-Star Team
Students-athletes are awarded membership to the All-Star team if they achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for an academic year.

Scholarships:

Big East Aeropostle Scholar Athlete
The Conference's Scholar-Athlete scholarship program annually provides 31 post-graduate scholarship grants to student-athletes pursing graduate or professional studies. Nomination and selection for the awards is based on academic excellence and outstanding athletic performance.

The program includes a male and female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a male and female Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and two award winners from each of the 14 member institutions.

NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program
The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.

Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship Programs
Sixteen scholarships to ethnic minorities and sixteen scholarships to women are available annually to college graduates who will be entering into the first year of their initial postgraduate studies.

The Freedom Forum-NCAA Sports-Journalism Scholarships (undergraduate)
The Freedom Forum, through a grant to the NCAA, supports eight $3,000 scholarships to college juniors who have career goals in sports journalism and major in journalism or have experience in campus sports journalism.
