  • WORCESTER, MA – The Rutgers heavyweight varsity eight crew finished sixth to lead the RU boats at the EARC Sprints May 11 on Lake Quinsigamond.

    RU qualified for the Varsity Eight Grand Final for the first time in 22 years with a second-place finish in its heat (5:57.54), and edged out Cornell by 0.06 of a second to earn the final spot in the Grand Final. Rutgers finished sixth in the final with a time of 6:31.45. The Scarlet Knights are ranked 13th in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Men’s Varsity Eights Poll (May 7).

    Rutgers’ second varsity placed sixth in the Petite Final (6:58.2) after a fourth-place finish in the third trial heat (6:21.88).

    The Scarlet Knight freshmen eight won the Third-Level Final (6:53.96) after placing fifth in the first trial heat (6:18.26).

    The Scarlet Knights will finish their season at the IRA Championships May 29-31 on the Cooper River.
