RU Lightweights Finish Third in Durand Cup Race

  • NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers lightweight crew finished third in the varsity eight race to determine the Durand Cup April 19 on the Raritan River.

    Rutgers is ranked eighth, Yale is fourth and Dartmouth is fifth in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Men’s Lightweight Eights Poll (April 16).

    Yale swept all five races in the perfect conditions, turning in a time of 6:04.9 to defeat Dartmouth (6:07.6) and Rutgers (6:14.3) in the varsity eight. The Bulldogs also won the second varsity (6:21.3) and third varsity four (6:53.3) events.

    In the freshmen races, RU (6:15.3) was defeated by Yale (6:13.5) in the first eight, and the Bulldogs (6:42.1) also finished ahead of the Scarlet Knights (6:44.4) in the second eight.

    The Scarlet Knights will next be in action Saturday, April 26, when Rutgers takes on MIT on the Charles River.
