  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers heavyweights were named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) EARC Crew of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Rutgers, competing in the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC), won the Ten Eyck Cup for the first time in seven tries, defeating Syracuse April 12 on Lake Onondaga. The Scarlet Knights were ranked 17th while the Orangemen were 20th in last week’s USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Men’s Varsity Eight Poll (April 10).

RU recorded a time of 6:03.6 in the varsity eight race to defeat host Syracuse (6:11.5) by two boatlengths. The RU crew consisted of junior Chris Graves (Northfield, NJ) [bow], senior Mark Hayden (Wexford, PA) [2], sophomore Nathan Carter (Springfield, VA) [3], sophomore Colin Jesberger (Chalfont, PA) [4], senior Mike Dori (West Windsor, NJ) [5], sophomore Fred Bidrawn (Mt. Holly, NJ) [6], junior Sam Stitt (McLean, VA) [7], junior Jim Green (Erdenheim, PA) [stroke] and sophomore Ned DelGuercio (Media, PA) [coxswain].

The Scarlet Knight heavyweights are the second RU crew to be recognized by the ECAC in as many weeks. On April 8, Rutgers was named the ECAC Women’s Sprints League Crew of the Week after sweeping five races against Connecticut (April 6).

Rutgers will next be in action Saturday, April 19, when RU travels to Hanover, NH, to take on Dartmouth and Boston University for the Bill Cup.
