ITHACA, NY – The Rutgers heavyweight crew lost at Cornell in a race to decide the Smith Cup April 13 on Cayuga Lake. Rutgers is ranked 17th and Cornell is fifth in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Men’s Varsity Eights Poll (April 10).
Cornell (6:22.1) defeated the Scarlet Knights (6:30.2) to capture the varsity eight race. In the second varsity, Rutgers (6:44.0) finished between Cornell’s two entries (6:30.1 and 6:47.3). The Big Red also won the freshmen eight race (6:36.7), outpacing RU (6:49.2) to the finish.
The Scarlet Knights will next be in action Saturday, April 19, when RU travels to Hanover, NH, to take on Dartmouth and Boston University for the Bill Cup.
