PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s varsity eight was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s Sprints League Crew of the Week for April 8, the ECAC office has announced.
The Scarlet Knights earned the honor after sweeping Connecticut in all five races April 6 on the Raritan River.
The varsity eight, consisting of junior Carin Busch (Stewartsville, NJ) [1], sophomore Lauren Kolb (Neshanic Station, NJ) [2], sophomore Erin White (Milford, CT) [3], senior Emma Carcagno (Pennington, NJ) [4], senior Sarah Kovach-Orr (Metuchen, NJ) [5], senior Erin McBride (Chesterfield, NJ) [6], senior Tina VanDerMeiren (Mt. Holly, NJ) [7], junior Nancy Erickson (Hazlet, NJ) [8] and junior Brenda Walk (Ventnor, NJ) [coxswain], defeated the Huskies (7:01.6) with a time of 6:48.2.
In the second varsity, the Scarlet Knights (7:05.4) defeated UConn (7:21.4). Both of RU’s novice boats earned wins, as the first novices recorded a time of 7:13.7 and the second novices finished the course in 7:32.4. Rutgers’ third varsity four (8:09.9) also were winners.
The Georgetown lightweights and the Virginia heavyweights also earned crew-of-the-week honors, and the West Virginia women were named the ECAC Metro League Crew of the Week.
The Scarlet Knights will next be in action Saturday, April 12, when RU hosts Brown on the Raritan River.
