  • WORCESTER, MA – The Rutgers women’s crew finished third overall at the first-ever BIG EAST Conference Championship April 24 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA.

Notre Dame (116 points) won the team title, followed by Boston College (92). Rutgers was just two points out of second place (90), followed Connecticut (76), Syracuse (75), Georgetown (45), Villanova (44) and West Virginia (40).

The varsity eight and second varsity eight finals were delayed due to inclement weather and windy conditions. Rutgers finished fourth in both events, posting a time of 8:52.61 in the second varsity eight and a 8:26.49 mark in the varsity eight.

The Scarlet Knight novice eight won the final with a time of 8:05.75, well ahead of second-place Notre Dame (8:20.32). Rutgers won the second preliminary heat of the event with a time of 8:49.40.

In the second heat of the varsity four, the Scarlet Knights (10:10.50) were second to Syracuse (9:56.10). Rutgers posted a time of 10:10.10 to finish fourth in the final.

The Scarlet Knights also earned a third-place finish (9:19.26) in the second varsity four race and a fourth-place effort (10:17.50) in the novice four.

This year marked the first official BIG EAST women’s rowing championship. The previous four years, the conference sponsored a “challenge” regatta. The Scarlet Knights finished fourth overall at last year’s BIG EAST Challenge.
