PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers rowers, Lauren Kolb (Neshanic Station, NJ), Amy Bircsak (East Windsor, NJ), Karen Cornell (Pittsburgh, PA), Nancy Erickson (Hazlet, NJ) and Melissa Thomas (Hampton, NJ) were named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) scholar-athletes. Rutgers was the only school to have five award winners.
The National Scholar-Athlete Award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75% of the season’s races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete’s head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA’s and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.
The Rutgers women’s crew finished with a 2-2 regular season record and
a fourth-place finish in the BIG EAST Championships.
