PROVIDENCE, RI - In perhaps its best race of the season, the Rutgers women’s varsity crew team rowed a very competitive race against Brown and UMass at the Seekonk River in Rhode Island on Saturday, April 10, 2004.
The varsity team of Melissa Thomas (Hampton, NJ), Karen Cornell (Pittsburgh, PA), Stephanie Asous (Kendall Park), Anica Allen (North Wales, PA), Amy Bircsak (East Windsor, PA), Lauren Kolb (Neshanic Station, NJ), Abby Sims (Old Lyme, CT), Nancy Erickson (Hazlet, NJ) and Brenda Walk (Ventor, NJ) finished with a time of 6:47, behind Brown’s (6:30) and UMass’s (6:35).
“The team overall is making some nice strides and I’m happy with the progress of the varisty,” said Rutgers women’s crew head coach Max Borghard.
The Rutgers’ second varsity team (7:23) placed second in their race while the Scarlet Knight’s third varsity team (8:31) also placed second.
Rutgers women’s crew will be back in action at the Raritan Cup on Saturday, April 17, on the Raritan River.
